#PavelDurov is facing 20 years in jail. I’m concerned that the outcome will be for #Telegram to be taken down. Telegram has been a major disruptor in providing access to uncensored information. Although, it is a centralized platform, its search features makes it possible to use Telegram as a powerful knowledge base. If Telegram was to be taken down, I personally would lose access to a tremendous library of information for which I frankly don’t have an alternative platform to turn to. This situation is extremely concerning for the future of free flow of information as decentralized protocols such as #nostr are nowhere near to be able to compete with Telegram as “knowledge database”.

Personally, I have never used Telegram. I knew they had open source applications, but since the actual server side architecture was closed source and whatnot, I decided never to touch it.

Yes, it’s clearly not the best setup privacy wise but I don’t think it’s ever been the focused of #Telegram (even if some may have perceived Telegram as more private that what it really is). However, it’s an unmatchable tool for the dissemination and access to unfiltered information.
