Nah. It’s that most people have a misunderstanding about how op return is a minor part of the problem of spam. Don’t get me wrong, I’m anti-spam, but op return isn’t gonna solve the problem. I don’t think opening up op return to larger than the limits for other methods of spam is wise, but leaving it smaller than more harmful spamming methods is unjustifiable too.
CSAM is already there on chain, so don’t fall for the appeal to emotion. Bitcoin matters more than CSAM anyhow and if anything, tx broadcast allows one more method of crime fighting. But bitcoin node runners aren’t criminals just because “oh please won’t someone think of the children?”
That said, hard fork to make transacting expensive might be the only solution to spam. And I’m not definitely opposed to Luke’s long held view that 300 kB blocks are best.
