More true in recent times then let's say 2 milenia ago.
Along with technology comes the ability to inflict and incite to vastly farther distances. The resulting tragedies don't change, but far less friction makes it far more likely. Few who have witnessed it first hand ever yearn for it.
I remember hearing a theory that neanderthals were actually the more intelligent species, but humans were more brutal, and won out that way. So that would make us the leftovers of the conquerors, but not the minds.
And our genes say that whatever we didn't kill of them, we fucked 🤷.

I agree. And not only from a biological pov, but in every aspect of life.
We are at war with ourself when we discover something new and we have to “update” our knowledge.
We are at war when we have to break free from our older beliefs and accept new ones.
We are at war when we have to leave our comfort zone to make difficult choices.
“War” breaks things to allow rebuilding.
