It’s an interesting tension between desiring to make one’s mark on the world for the better and recognizing the statistical probability that I’m a historic no-body.

Well, if you have kids then you are the most important person in their lives. That's pretty monumental actually.
Also, just due to the chaos theory you could be flapping your arms and cause some revolution.
Always keep the scale of 'world' in mind. Priorities are the world and where we make our biggest mark. Family, friends, community...
If this is the primary scale, the marks will be huge,....
for better or worse.
