I "inherited" a book entitled "Why Men Marry Some Women And Not Others" from a housemate when I was in my early 20s.

She was fit, articulate, intelligent and frighteningly well read. I never had to argue with her on chores, she may have actually out-neatfreaked me.

I learned only after she moved in that she was a stripper. I imagine most strippers have high opinions of themselves, but this one was very sure she was going to marry a rich, classy older man, any day now. She could get them, but couldn't keep them, and would get all mopey and depressed. After a couple of months she went to stay with her sister for a weekend and ghosted us for the next two years. I threw out her stuff after a month's rent was unpaid, but I kept a few of her books that were actually good, and the marriage book that was just funny. Offered them back when she resurfaced, but she declined.

Its actually full of good (if rather obvious) advice (that Emily clearly didn't take...)
