There is technically no consensus nor global state in cyberspace, and that is by design. Nobody in reality has access to global state nor consensus either; it only has the protocol which operates under locality.

I understand, thanks for responding, I just found it interesting that just as bitcoin creates digital monetary scarcities, it also does so in assets and perhaps it would be interesting for a future virtual universe.

Cyberspace is scarce and it doesn't need a blockchain to make it so. Blockchains are only necessary for the trustless transfer of digital assets.
