The way that racism is defined and discussed has changed dramatically over the last 20 years and I honestly think it has been to the detriment to all cultures that have historically been victims of legitimate negative actions because of their race.

Everyone in the world is constantly making judgement calls about the world and other people they encounter. When I don't know someone, I absolutely make guesses about them until I get to know them better.

If I was ever walking through a high crime area and I saw a group of young men with face tattoos, I'm going to assume that they are potentially dangerous. I don't know that for sure, but it's going to be my going in assumption.

According to some definitions of racism, simply being white makes me, by definition, racist because I have had an inherent advantage in life based on my race. I get that that is a thing, and I don't even necessarily disagree, but how does that make me a racist?

These types of definitions make everyone a racist, and a sexist, and an ageist. And when everyone is a racist, it gives cover for people who are actually discriminating based on race. The definition of racism has experienced massive inflation over the last couple of decades.

Racism is not the only example of definitions that have experienced inflation. Language and definitions are critical for people to be able to communicate and understand each other. After we fix the money, I hope that society can get back to a more stable set of definitions that we all agree to use.
