I don’t understand why Americans try to eat rice with a fork when a spoon can scoop a gracious amount

I'm American and find eating rice with a fork to be bizarre and inefficient lol. I assumed you were American too btw!

Nah, too rogue =) And yea!

It's the same for Europeans.

At least in Italy I think it is related to "Etiquette", you should use spoon only for liquid foods where a fork cannot be used.

For example I struggle to use a (little) spoon for a cake, if they serve me it at restaurant (it happens a lot lately) I ask for a fork, and my friends make fun of me. But for me it's real pain, and tastes are also different.

It's a strange issue, and I am getting old, I know.

lol, food etiquette needs a revamp!

Btw, I prefer chopsticks :)

i'm impressed, you seem well versed with chinese traditional medicine and chinese way of eating rice, how is that so? We grew up in a mix culture so we are exposed to it since young but i never liked the chopsticks and the rice in the bowl only because i could never get the composition right. But i struggle to eat noodles or dim sums without chopsticks

I don't know, after visiting the East and delving a little into their cultures, I have become attached and some things seem quite natural to me, as if I had done them before.
