Japan's ruling party, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is projected to lose its majority in the country's snap elections for the first time since 2009. The LDP, led by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, fell short of securing a majority with its coalition partner Komeito. The party has governed Japan almost continuously since World War II.
