I will not use Apple products unless their practices change. They are profit driven and clearly making a product that many people love. In their case, because ethics are not a core part of their business, it is easier to comply with government requests than not. Until people stop buying every new product this should be the case. It may be useful to discuss what apple users like about the user experience to improve open source alternatives. Let's take advantage of the billions invested in research and development. Maybe (not likely) enough people switch to FOSS that profit drives them to being more open.
