The US does have a basic privacy law, namely the 4th amendment. The problem with it, like the problem with all laws and constitutions, is it’s just words on paper.
If no one cares about the idea those words represent then it doesn’t matter if those words are called law, amendment, constitution, or anything else. Politicians and judges (but I repeat myself) are free to ignore those words without consequence.
Laws are not there for the common people...
