Parler was always a bit of a joke, but it shutting down really reinforces the fact that there's no future in the old centralized model of social media. The big tech platforms will lumber on for a bit longer but the only real alternatives lie with decentralization. There's incredible energy around Nostr at the moment and the Fediverse just racked up a billion posts for the first time ever last month. Exciting things are happening.

I remember downloading parler just before it got taken off the app stores in the hop a journalist would buy my phone with it for 🤑 just to see trump posts for their job. (I'm still poor).

Parler was such a scammy, piece-of-shit website it made Gab look good.

I didn't even really try it tbh, but it was sort of obvious it would never take off

I don't even care all that much about mass adoption - it's just nice to have cool places for the weirdos to hang out at.
