Object permanence is the comprehension that when you're not looking at something, it's nonetheless there.

Most people have no problem with it, but what they do have a problem with is what I call 'event permanence', which is the comprehension that just because something isn't happening to you right now, doesn't mean that it didn't happen in the past or that it couldn't happen in the future.

Just a stray thought/opinion.

events aren't permanent though

Once an event occurs it is said to have occured.

It will never have not occured henceforth, and it is that which I refer to here, as permanence.

You can say whatever you like, but the past no longer exists

Because you are no longer experiencing it, precisely.
