In 304 AD, Bishop Irineu refused to offer pagan sacrifice. He was imprisoned, tortured, and finally beheaded for his unwavering faith in Christ. Before his death, he prayed for his flock and for the conversion of his persecutors. His steadfastness inspired many to embrace Christianity.
