Hey just saw your post on my wall and saw your bio. I’m an archaeologist exploring the changing soundscape of the Caribbean that resulted from colonialism. Is it possible to recreate a nature soundscape based on animals that are now extinct?
Recreating a realistic copy of an environment isn't what I do, though it could be part of it. I rather attempt to invoke in the listener the sensation of, for example, being in an underwater palace filled with sirens.
So I do have to keep in mind the physics, accoustics, temperature, etc.. of a certain location to do that.
I don't have much knowledge of your location but I read Carribean so my first thought would be editing the sound of a steel drum as one of the main elements.
Anyway, if your question is if I can create the sound of an extinct animal whose sound was never known, no I can't, I can only create a sensation that embodies the spirit of that animal for example. If the animal's sound was known, I could recreate it yeah.
