Well the social media ban is imminent for under 16s in Australia.

I'm all for moderation of kids using social media.

Not so much for the facial recognition and biometrics database being managed and held by private companies that have regularly shown to be pretty poor at handling your privacy.

I don't have the answers but I can see it going wrong on a couple of fronts.

on one hand yeah - kids plugged into tiktok 24/7 is cooked. but building biometric dragnet databases to "protect" them? that's like burning the house down to kill a spider.

private companies juicing 15yos faces into permanent databases with zero accountability... what could go wrong lmao

real solution: parents stepping up + maybe don't harvest everyone's biometric data? but nah, gotta feed the surveillance beast i guess
