Recently helped my sibling restore their Trezor, which had simply stopped working, from the backup codes. It was a great exercise to go through.

It has me thinking about how to best secure my family’s coin.

Trezor has always worked well for me for cold storage, but I’m curious if anyone on here has any gripes with them or recommendations for other cold storage options.

Any device can fail, so you should always have a steel backup of your seed phrase stored in a separate location. I like ColdCard, personally, for my hardware wallet, but there are plenty of good options out there. Jade, BitBox, Foundation's Passport... Everyone has reasons why they like one over the other. Important thing is get one that is Bitcoin only to minimize the attack surface. Get it directly from the manufacturer's website.

Hadn’t thought of it that way, but very true. My Trezor supports a bunch of random coins. Probably should look into switching, thanks.

There's other valid currencies that can be used in cold storage too.

But yes, having solid wallets like foundation that prioritize better cryptocurrency projects is perhaps ideal.
