Every empire collapses, but the greatest leave an indelible mark.
It was dissolved into the early Christian kingdoms after being made Christian itself. The greatness was adopted and the debauchery discarded.
But did Rome ever actually exist is the question
As a former archaeologist who excavated ancient Roman coins, pot shards, statues, and other artifacts, I can tell you with 100% certainty that it did exist.
I believe you. The written political history is dubious though.
