just added the final finishing touch to this one - now that i've cleared out the real cause of the problem i was having (dodgy cables) - double silicone noise dampers, now these keys are almost silent when i type on them
cherry switches basically last forever, unless you soak them in beer or coffee... i can't reccommend enough getting them... but do be careful with choosing which kind of switches though - you want ones with 45nm actuation force (this is the springs) unless you don't care to ever learn to touch type
personally, i would like to get even lighter springs on these, they are cherry silver, which actuates about 1mm down, takes a bit to get used to not touching them cos you almost barely have to push to get a signal...
cherry now makes a much lower profile, about half height, cherry silver key for gaming laptops... man... one of these days, i'm gonna fab myself a custom board and cover it in these thin keys
honestly, i've been touch typing since i was 14 and the longer you do it the less you want to have to push hard on the keys... at first it's a novelty but after you have spewed a million words or more it gets really old the amount of muscle strain it causes
