i ran a proxy, nostdress, before mastodon and 3 docker host with a few services.

I am thinking of using it to run docker containers on it. Even postgres in a container. Is it easy to run containers on it? And which server worked for you with docker?
i depends on the os you use, i’m a big fan of ubuntu 😉, on ubuntu I think it’s easy to run docker.
if you use a node that’s directly connected to the internet, be sure that you don’t forget to secure it e.g. close ports, change ssh port, don’t use passwords for authentication…
Which service have you tried from them, the "web" or the "cloud"?
i currently use only the cloud service, before that often dedicated servers.
How big are the differences there?
Only the sharedness or dedicatedness of the resources are the difference?
with a dedicated server you get the full resources of ram and cpu, on cloud those are shared with others… but I’m since 2011 hetzner customer and never had a performance issue.
with a cloud server you are much more flexible and most time it’s easier to setup.

Is it easy to switch between them and move your app from cloud to a dedicated server?
How I see it at this point is:
1️⃣ Cloud could be cheaper starting point if my app is not used all the time.
2️⃣ If more resources are needed I can switch to a dedicated server.
3️⃣ If I use a docker container, it is easy to set it up in any environment, because I only need a dockerfile and a folder with necessary files.
if you use the same os and cpu architecture then it should be easy to move to a new environment.
not sure what you plan to host, i think a dedicated server is used if you plan to use app’s that need lot of cpu or ram. I have 4 cloud server right now and this is still cheaper then a dedicated server. and to spin up a new cloud server is much faster, also you don’t have to care of hardware failure.
