Maree Jr. The journal entries begin on September 17, 1944,as the USS Uhlmann DD 687 departs Pearl Harbor "on a mission of war." They end August 16, 1945, with the handwritten entry, "That was a sad day for the Japs and a happy day for us. the Rising Sun had finaly set. there wase tears in all faces Because a lot of good men had died so that this could be made posible."
