Donald Trump congratulated Friedrich Merz and the CDU/CSU on their victory in today’s German elections. In his message, Trump referred to the CDU/CSU as a conservative party in Germany, stating that, much like in the U.S., the German people are fed up with the reckless agenda, particularly in areas such as energy and immigration.
Like the AfD, which received strong backing from Elon Musk, the CDU/CSU supports stricter immigration laws, but without the extreme and even racial rhetoric promoted by the AfD.
However, unlike the AfD, which advocates a pro-Russian stance, calling for Germany to reconcile with Putin and end aid to Ukraine, the CDU/CSU stands for the opposite. Merz has repeatedly stated that he will send Germany’s long-range Taurus missile to Ukraine and increase Germany’s overall support for Ukraine’s defense.
