Every product/service has a target customer. The average consumer doesn’t need a professional dashboard with enhanced tools for publishing and analytics. No argument there. In terms of Primal specifically, the free and premium tiers are more than adequate for most people. And since it’s nostr, no one even has to use Primal. There are other apps that can be used individually to do all of the same things Primal is enabling under its unified UX. But that’s a HUGE hassle when you’re just trying to get something published and continue on with other things. The people no willing to pay for things out of pocket, will pay in other ways, even if it’s just their own inconvenience. Nothing is truly free.
Discussion
I feel like scheduling posts, a gif button, or simple analytics could be useful for a lot of people. Directly in app. And I think it has a cost
I agree with you nothing is free. Unfortunately the masses we’re trying to attract think that everything is free, because of the advertising model. Will they even pay for Damus purple or a relay
The only reason to pay for Damus purple is if you want to be one of their beta testers. They abandoned their established user base the day they made that decision. And they partnered with a compromised wallet provider. I would never recommend anyone paying for Damus purple. If you want a good client that’s not Primal, use Nostur or Amethyst. As for scheduled posts, I agree with you. It would be useful for a lot of people. Makes you wonder why NONE of the popular client devs have implemented it. I’ll tell you why, it’s because devs don’t listen to their users. They have their heads up their asses chasing after grant money.
You said the quiet part out loud. I’m like it 😏
“We know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two.” 😂
I’m not trying to get into a Damus vs primal debate. My point is more that most won’t pay for a subscription to a client or a relay or an image hosting service. And then devs chase after grants because they need money to develop their apps/services. Then on the other hand you have some that are willing to pay for those apps and services. Seems like a minority. People go crazy when they hear onlyzaps 😂
Seems like we’re between a rock and hard place if we want to attract a bigger user base
It would work better if more companies incorporated zapvertising into their business model. They could even build services to help them optimize their strategy and sell packages to brands that are willing to pay users for attention. No one has really solved this yet.
You’re right. That would solve a lot of the problem. Instead of having legacy ads, it would be ads about services available on nostr. And the user gets paid
It doesn’t need to be Primal vs Damus, and yet that’s what the purists (as I like to call them) and even the Damus dev himself like to push like a bunch of crybabies. They need to grow up.
As for the main point of this discussion, people have a few choices:
1) pay for what you need
2) manually piece together the features you want using multiple apps
3) wait until an ad-supported client comes along and turns the user and their data into the product just like every other social media out there.
I like Daniel’s zapvertising idea as well. I feel like most won’t do 1 or 2. Most users from legacy socials that were trying to attract I mean. Either we get something like zapvertising or legacy ads like you said
*we're trying to attract
Had to head out earlier with family so just getting back through my notifications slowly 😂 I really don’t want to see “traditional” ads show up in clients but I also feel like it’s probably inevitable at some point if the user base gets large enough.
I think so too. Either something like zapvertising becomes really popular and attracts the masses, or we’re stuck with legacy ads
