Does anyone have tips on hiking with a three-year old?

Before being parents, my husband and I would go on weekend hikes together. When our daughter was small, we carried her in the Deuter baby carrier, but she’s too big for that now.

I used to have the Jack Wolfskin Watchtower. They are up to 20-25 kg I think, so not sure if it is worth it since you could only use it for one season I guess.

Beside of that always bring enough water and for the child a small water bottle that you can refill, stored in an outside pocked of their own small backpack.

Mine enjoyed hiking more if they had a branch in their hand that we found on the way, then they forgot about being tired :D

TY! I will check it out in store.

We pack sandwiches, water, fruit, etc. I prefer to have picnics when the weather is nice.

Oh and also very helpfull, put a damp/wet facecloth in a plastic zipper bag, so you have something to clean the hands before eating. Wet wipes are also okay but I prefered the facecloth when they were small. :)

Make the hikes short and enjoyable. The positive reinforcement will cause the length of the hikes increase with the child’s capability. Stop often and remember when the world was pure magic.

So true! We went on a mini hike Wednesday and stopped frequently to observe bugs. She was so proud to point them out, and describe how they look and move ❤️
