I never wanted to focus on career because I thought that people who did so were missing the finer points of life.
Their life seemed dishonest, unauthentic genuflecting towards the unsavory and nihilistic elements of life.

yes, you were observing integration points of your work with public. once you can directly connect without trusted third parties, work becomes very cool.

Its an interesting puzzle to put together. From my experience "most people want to be a rockstar, until its time to be a rockstar", most people around me are just there to collect a paycheck keep a fancy title and not get in trouble.
the real fun is when you can actually do the right thing without worry of repercussions (you know you can cover the bill)
