A stable coin is stable in relation to the currency it is ”mimicking”. It is not stable in relation to bitcoin if that is what you meant
The mechanisms used to maintain stability like algorithms or collateralization can fail or be ineffective, leading to instability.
Stable coins can still depeg from the dollar though. Top lel
