I am not looking for a distracted audience to look at my paintings to boost my ego that will put a like and go.

I am looking for passionate art admirers who will also participate with some criticism to evolve my work.

Maybe I demand too much, but I can't believe that my paintings have no flaws; it's not possible for me to receive only compliments and no criticism.

I need constructive criticism to create better paintings.

Can you help me? πŸ«‚πŸŽ¨

What’s the proper way to criticize someone’s art?

I don't know.

Do you think there is something that could be improved in any of my paintings?

I think your work is beautiful. I genuinely enjoy the way you play with light and color and I especially love the pieces where you can really see the brush strokes.

I really respect people who can take a blank canvas and transform it into something beautiful. Idk how that helps you grow as an artist though? Or what is actually considered constructive criticism when it comes to art?

OK, I will give it a whirl from what I have seen.

You already have your style and process. I believe you could benefit from exploring different techniques or even mediums.

I notice you post other famous artists work, I assume you draw inspiration from them. Maybe try adopting their techniques, or use of color and see how you can incorporate that in your own art. I am personally trying to do this as well. Because I feel I've hit a wall.

Also try playing with contrast, and the rule of thirds to keep people engaged. I think your paintings are beautiful but there seems to be only one focal point. It could be a fun challenge

Yes that's what I'm trying to do, at least in my head, I would like to try to dare more by trying to make landscapes on the edge of the abstract but I can't do it yet.

I should make many more attempts, instead I always try to make complete paintings.

I often prefer my paintings at the beginning, when I define the shapes, while when I put in the details they lose strength.

I don't know if I explain myself well.

Using an example you posted: nostr:nevent1qqst7qducuu0mdx57e53f3cay84g6em47v8v0hpvvkjpsxthgrhk59gpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7q3q7nd4yu9anyd3004pumgrtazaacujjxwzj36thtqsxskjy0r5urgqxpqqqqqqzanv8c9

What makes this painting so appealing?

I see there are only 3 striking colors, with variations where the paint mixes. He only uses big strokes and shapes. There is hardly any rendering. He uses dynamic directions that gives the painting movement so there is a lot of interesting stuff to look at.

What I would try replicating:

Use 3 colors

Use big shapes that lead the eye

Use dark darks and light lights

Make sure the composition is interesting

Here's what I mean. The way he laid it out has my eye moving all over the canvas and there is always something new to look at.

Now if you put it side by side with a similar painting you've done you can see the differences. Its neither bad nor good. Its just interesting to see different approaches.

I put them both in black and white

Great advice!

Thanks! This is what I try to do for myself. I find art that inspires me and figure out what I like about it and how I can do it myself.

Please don't disappear, I need people like you, thank you infinitely πŸ™πŸ«‚πŸŽ¨

No problem!

I wish I could help, but I don't really have the vocabulary to speak about visual art all that much. I Feel comfortable talking about music Because I have that vocabulary and I'm somewhat versed in music theory.

For lack of a better way of saying it, we need more art nerds on here so you guys can geek out about art stuff.

I thank you very much for your feedback, sooner or later there will be someone to help me improve. πŸ«‚πŸŽ¨

πŸ€” I can try to give constructive criticism if I am able to figure out something useful to say

I like your art. But its mostly landscape or some close ups of items or nature.

Just from a phone screen glance but is it 90% realism with 10% impressionism?

Some looks very realism.

I tend to like impressionism, unless the realism shows something like a violent storm, amazing ocean wave closeups, a giant turtle, etc.

But mostly I like things in the pictures.. a pirate boat in a bay. Fantasy art. A tree that looks evil? I don’t know something that stands out. A stone entrance cave that has a little key hole in the stone, small but noticeable.

Intrigue, mystery, beauty, danger.

I hope this is feedback you wanted to hear. And others likely have completely different wants or likes.

I thank you for your feedback.

Actually this is not a criticism of my art but just a display of what you like and your taste.

That's still okay, but it doesn't help me improve myself. Thank you anyway. πŸ™

Maybe step out of your comfort area (you are a master at what you like) but maybe add something that shows mystery, intrigue, anger, love, happiness, something needs to be in your art to make me feel something.

I think the problem is that when you are skilled enough, it’s tough for viewers to figure out where one’s style ends and skill with techniques begins. So β€œI don’t like this one as much as that one” is less β€œthis one is bad and here’s why” and more β€œI guess this one just isn’t my style.”

Yes I am looking for someone to tell me:

"this is not good and I'll explain why."

or

"if you did it this way it would turn out better."

I realize it is difficult, but I see many artists who are better than me, but none of them give me criticism.

Ah well then I am not qualified πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ

When I see fantasy art I like super realistic art, not impressionism in that context.

For your subject matter, I don’t see any faults.

Those pictures are not really painted, they are derived from digital photos, aren’t they?

What images do you mean?

All of them?

Do you mean the ones on my website?

https://isolabell.art/#paintings

Exactly.

They are all original oil paintings made by me, they are not created digitally.

Amazing! In times of AI it could be highly valuable for you to somehow make the uniqueness of your paintings verifiable. In my reception there are tons of tools that do exactly that: create handmade looking images from digital ones. I hope this helps!

All the best!

I feel you are very good. If I were to give some criticism I would say try to put your own spin on what you paint. Example put some silliness, weirdness, something that is unexpected in it. Like least number of strokes or colors to show a scene

I agree, this is very good advice.

Less is more.

As Leonardo da Vinci said, simplification is the ultimate sophistication, so it will be very difficult.
