Why do people intentionally acquire a taste for foods that don’t naturally taste good
Discussion
Like what?
Coffee, IPAs, most vegetables
I think it's OK for ppl to have different tastes! I don't care for coffee, but love herbs and vegetables.
Mass produced food tastes very very different to local, organic and fresh in most cases.
Food science, but also social effects too - like coffee, smoking, or conversational drinks.
And a lot is about balancing them for consumption. Some vegetable dishes don’t result in a well balanced profile.
Interesting thought. I don't remember having an intention to acquire taste for anything, but I do remember my taste changing many times since I was a kid.
Addiction psychology is a bitch
Because with today’s abundance, if you only eat what naturally tastes good (sugar) you will make yourself sick. A ripe fruit was a rare bonanza back in nature, a summer and fall time delicacy to prepare for winter, no longer. https://nostr.build/av/b940709f82f5d7d24214d3789ecb7a4be70d12f0f083997b01d5a24eec3a9de2.mov
I don’t think sugar is a problem, it’s sugar in an unnatural form that is. If you ate an only fruit diet i highly doubt you would get fat. Cant say the same for an only cake diet
Modern fruits are ‘unnatural’ already, they’ve been changed by 10,000+ years of human selection to contain way more sugar and way less fiber. The point is, we evolved to “like” certain things in the context of them being very rare. In today’s abundance, only eating what your brain-of-the-scarce-past evolved for will make you sick.
Also, you might be a super taster (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertaster) and just find bitter things extra offputting. Maybe what you think coffee or vegetables taste like isn’t what most people experience.
Modern food are drugs scientists and statisticians weaponizing "food".
It's the interplay between sugar and fat.
Fat is what makes you satiated.
Sugar makes you hungry. So you rush out to get sugar. Then the sugar effect dominates the fat effect.
If you eat a fatty meal and you throw some sugar in, the sugar is going to deliver hunger and fat is going to deliver the calories and you’re just going
to binge.
That's why most artificial food is a combo if fat and sugar, so you become and addict to maximize their profits.
In nature a combination of fat and sugar does usually not exist.
It's pervert what kind of society we live in right now.
Like bell pepper 🤮
