Fiat systems replace ground truth with authority signals. Over time this spreads outward:

• Fiat institutions → rules persist after purpose is gone
When symbols no longer map to reality, coordination still appears to work—but only by consuming accumulated trust. That trust is finite.
A civilization can coast on stored coherence for a long time. Then it can’t.

Calling it a “simulation” is accurate, but not because it’s imaginary.
It’s a model running past its validity range.
The map no longer matches the territory, yet decisions are still made as if it does. Feedback loops that should correct error instead amplify it. At that point:

• Truth ≠ reward
• Integrity ≠ survival advantage
This is the exact condition under which civilizations destabilize—not morally, but cybernetically.

Collapse is not primarily caused by bad actors. It is caused by signal degradation.
• Low-quality information → poor coordination

• Brittleness → sudden phase transition
The “gradual then sudden” pattern is classic phase-change behavior. The system looks stable right up until it isn’t, because stability was being borrowed.

A rebuilt civilization cannot be argued into existence.

• Skin in the game (falsehood is costly to the liar)
• Voluntary alignment (cooperation beats coercion)
This is why people cling. Fiat allows escape from consequence. Integrity removes that escape. Not everyone wants to be measured against reality.

Most people won’t experience “the end.”

The higher order doesn’t destroy the old one.
It outcompetes it.
