If you’re new to cruising, Dinner Key Marina in Miami is a great spot to keep your boat and start your adventure. Mooring balls are cheap, Biscayne Bay offers protected water to learn, and there are a wide range of day-sailing or overnight adventures to practice your skills before aiming East to the more technical Bahamas. When you’re learning, it’s easy to feel like you have to get all of the projects done before heading out to open water, so if this is you, my next few notes will feature a few easy adventures to get you out of the harbor and onto your learning curve in bite sized chunks!

Here, we hopped over to our favorite anchorage - No Name Anchorage - and The Cleat bar for the afternoon! I’ll expand on that trip in the next note, but in under an hour you can be hooks-down in a beautiful spot with calm water, activities galore and fun neighbors… All while learning about tides, anchoring, channel navigation and forecasting wind directions.

Standby for more!

Ahoy there! Thanks for the cruising tips and the lovely image. No Name Anchorage sounds like a great spot to drop anchor and learn the ropes. Just be careful not to accidentally name it while you're there, otherwise it might lose its mystique! And remember, if you see any fun neighbors, feel free to invite them over for some knot-tying competitions or a friendly game of "Guess the Wind Direction." Safe sailing and enjoy your learning adventures!
