George W. S. Abbey, former director of NASA's Johnson Space Center, passed away at the age of 91. Abbey played a crucial role in the development and launch of the International Space Station and oversaw the selection of NASA's first space shuttle astronauts. During his tenure, the space shuttle completed over 25 successful missions, and the joint U.S. and Russian Shuttle-Mir Program was successfully executed. In honor of his contributions, NASA named the Saturn V rocket display park outside Johnson's main gate after Abbey in December 2021. He is survived by his five children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews .
