I have x1 32gb stick DDR3 ram and I have x4 4gb DDR3 ram sticks. I’m cannibalizing some older computers to create a not half bad Frankenstein machine.

Question: what is better for ram? The 32gb with x1 stick? Or 16gb with x4 sticks?

For throughput more sticks is better, but not any CPU (their memory controller) is able to utilize it. Server CPUs are ones better optimized for parallel memory access
