I usually start with making clear that bitcoin will require time and effort to understand.

Then i try to find out what channel of resource is preferred: book, podcast, homepage...

If It's a one time discussion i always start with explaining the problems of the current fiat system. If you don't understand the problem then you are not looking for a solution.
