Windows 8 was so bad that after releasing 8.1 they jumped to 10 to try to put distance between the two. Didn’t work. I had an on call phone and it was a windows phone. I remember looking at it and think this is a piece of shit and what the fuck is this shit.
It truly was. I remember being at the LAN parties not dealing with issues when everyone else was using XP

I miss DOS sometimes. The machine was much much more deterministic back then.
From the developers perspective, the OS basically got out of the way once a program was launched. We still sell machines powered by DOS that control very large equipment.
Windows 3.1 felt like DOS with quality of life improvements. 🤣
