At present, I'm using a Raspberry Pi 4GB, but I'm unable to install all the applications I desire. Rather than purchasing another Raspberry Pi with 8GB, I'm interested in an operating system that ensures privacy, Pure OS with Intel management engine disable means more privacy less risk in my opinion.

So you believe Start9+Intel increases privacy vs. RaspberryPi+Umbrel. Interesting. I will do some search on this.

Report back Sandy. Iโ€™d like to get your opinion on this

Sure, I will. What nostr:npub1grugcx3cwqsxq627fzm4ec39zwulxdtj7ysc7r6ulm02a60da60qadfu3u has mentioned regarding security is something that i have already read in Start9 website. Of course, their opinion is biased:

Hey nostr:npub1pzej3dt6ql5xzzxh4lg9eg2yttr25zsft4s4fje0gdrmm64mmwvswqshxc after some weeks of reviewing options I am seriously considering to switch to Start9.

Start9 architecture is built with privacy and security in mind, this is the first reason. After digging information out on the roadmap, team and focus, i believe this is the right step forward.

The second main reason that has convinced me is my own experience with Umbrel after some time: I came to the conclusion that is still a half-cooked OS, less secure and it forces the user to switch between command line and GUI.

My two cents.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear your conclusion. Iโ€™ve also been leaning towards a start9. They had the CEO on #[5]โ€‹ this past week. Was a good interview. He mentioned a huge update coming soon. Iโ€™m curious what that will look like.

From my understanding, Start9 collaborates with a company called Purism, which specializes in selling privacy-oriented devices that are designed without any backdoors in the operating system."

Might be worth looking into Purism too

Interesting! Never heard of this one before.

Maybe is mentioned in the website? Don't know.

So we need to trust that purism is not funded by In-q-tel?

Remember EncroChat?

Were they open source?

It doesnt look like

I guess Donโ€™t trust, verify right!

Very interesting story, I didnt know about it.
