Any visa advice. I want to go but the COVID insurance requirement for visa is turning me off. I was thinking to cross over at Mae Sai Thailand. Do they really require the insurance or is it just an administrative thing? #myanmar #travel #thailand

Oof that is a good question that I am definitely not qualified to provide an answer to.
When I went in March 2020 I was able to get the visa on arrival. This was just days before covid started worldwide, so I am unaware of the new requirements. It will also heavily depend on your nationality.
I would also be wary of traveling there at the moment (esp. certain northern regions) as the military overthrew the government shortly after my trip and has remained in power ever since. Travel between provinces might be difficult and subjected to scrutinizing checkpoints (I had these and that was before the coup).
As much as I would love more people to go see the country, I cannot recommend it at this time. Not saying you shouldn’t go- but I would definitely do some (more up to date) research on how the situation is now.
It seems that I got very lucky with the timing of my trip. I hope you can visit 🙏
Contemplating it, in my experience these things are hard to gauge when not in country or have contact with people who are. I guess next step is to find some expat forum to ask same question...
