Im on a fairly tight budget so generally forgo traditional opt-in subscriptions like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Hulu, Max, CBS, Crunchy Roll, YouTube TV, Spotify, SlingTV, Peacock, Fountain, Orange Pill App, etc. Instead I budget gas money and food and drink for Bitcoin Meetup excursions.
From a content perspective I used to subscribe to a few patreons. But I found that early or exclusive access really wasnt providing enough value. Similar to GameStop PowerUp Rewards/Pro, over time it becomes either noise (content too often) or buried/lost in my inbox.
I think the subscriptions that I like the most are those that
- provide a base service I use
- provide some extra stuff that isnt essential to the base service, but sets it apart from competitors
- content being focused on how to get more functionality from the service, by using customizeable features. In the form of medium/substack/blog and/or video
Any content that is widely disbursed through dozens/hundreds of related news outlets, videos or podcasts is not something ID pay for.
