Lettuces might have to go up 20c to cover a living wage for farm workers, if no desperate illegals are to be found.

Clearly a permanent underclass with even fewer rights than other workers was necessary.
Without that desperation and lack of options, citizen workers might even organise and push back against assaults on their rights by megacorps linked to the Democratic Party.

So you didn’t see that film then? The whole ag system is pretty fragile in general especially lettuces. Literally built on top of chemical inputs from big ag/pharma and cheap labor unable to stand up for themselves because employers are skirting all sorts of rules and regs.
It ain’t gonna be 20 cent increases
