Good point. If a parent gave their kids methamphetamine we would probably expect the state to intervene in that case. It's violating the parents right to decide what's best for their child, but it's also clear that the parent is abusing that right and harming the child.

But also I think my state legislature is reacting to a problem that isn't really happening in my state. This is very conservative Idaho, not wacko leftist California. The two families in the state that want to gender transition their kid will just move across the state line to Washington.

They're more making a statement with this law than solving a problem that actually exists.

After rereading my response, I feel like I worded that poorly.

I don't think the government should intervene like this, and I would consider this, even as just a 'statement' to be just another in a long series of encroachments that shouldn't be tolerated.

But that said, some laws/regulations/whatever, while representing overreach and should be fought, might also simultaneously result in some good, and I think this is one of those cases.
