Safari's WebKit is also the rendering engine the Chromium's Blink engine was based on. So Firefox Gecko really is the only competition. Kind of like Core/Knots in Bitcoin node implementations.

There are minimalist browsers like Qutebrowser and Surf Browser too but they're only on desktops.
