nostr:npub18gcrwqwmhysr7hkmuc04tkde3nmwm7wspq9qm732mhvxnlfy56tqhfv7cg actually, thinking back.. the only time I unreservedly enjoyed a competitive game has been when it was played with a goal of exploring either its mechanisms, or the kind of thematic implications we could draw from play.

Twilight Struggle for example was very entertaining as a "what if"-type of thought experiment. Talking about how to interpret the various events or even the ins and outs of the design space.

But my general uneasiness with competitive designs is probably the reason I don't play them with my partner either.

nostr:npub1yy5xcddnnqnj3jy7yyxfnhng0fe7a6de3ezm7mp0dn472cljxxlsv69kx0 I get this aspect and why it may be a draw for some people. The narrative one is not one I do intuitively, but some of my most memorable games were with people who really got into that aspect of it.
