I think the sub and paywall functionality needs to get a lot better, but things like zapple pay & creatr are things that come to mind to provide that functionality, that's outside of the small network here too.

ya, there are relays and services that provide that capability right now.
creatr.wine is a patreon style relay for content creators.
zapplepay.com gives the ability to auto zap an npub on a time interval of your choice.
