A few big channels with reliable, trustworthy partners is much better than dozens of channels with random plebs, even if that feels less decentralized.
L2 doesn't have to be as decentralized because it's already anchored to L1

Yep, added benefit is they are direct sources of payments not just routing
Connecting to wallets and LSPs (like Olympus by nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 ) probably all you need to do for very payment high reliability
I used to be that pleb connected to a dozen other plebs. It felt like LARPing.
Same then half the channels force closed over the next year and ended up paying hundreds of thousands of sats in fees to have a less reliable node

L2 nodes could receive greater scrutiny that big channels might shy away from entirely or even connect with only a few “anointed” nodes
I also found that most channels connected with randos did not route well.
