When someone says they're going to build on top of nostr (e.g. blogging, marketplace, etc) would the events spam the rest of the network?
Or would they only use a specific relay, or perhaps specific event kinds?

As long as the event is valid, they can broadcast it to any relay they have access to. Hopefully they’ll have their own kind, then relay operators can choose wether they want to store these events or not.
