So how does these award work? On some profiles i see them as badges or something but how does one do that?

You must accept it, and place it in your profile.
I was going to recommend, https://badges.page but I am not sure it's live anymore, I am getting a DNS error.
Look at https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/58.md and you can sign the events manually if you want to "accept" the badge.

About as good as badgr works... 😂 Last I tried. Idk I'm on mobile so I'll check this out when I get to work. I'll spin up badgr in a broken state so at ease there's something.

I don't think I got awarding in yet. I put it to the side to focus on grain and it got left behind as I went on the redo my site and contribute to CLN ecosystem.
