Never used #linux before but I'm gonna turn a Microsoft surface 3 pro into a #bitcoin node for a friend. Do y'all recommend #debian ? #ubuntu ? Something else?

Ubuntu or fedora are good options
Ubuntu is a good start. I personally like Manjaro, but this might take a little bit more detail configuration from time to time.
Debian for stability, or linux mint debian edition. But I would reccommend opensuse or alpine.

Ubuntu, easiest to install, run and get going
#Debian is know to be stable but it come with old softwares package
#Ubuntu is based on the code of #Debian, so the two are very similar, but #Ubuntu use more updated packages sometime and offer better drivers supports
There are other differences, but for your purpose, i would suggest #Ubuntu
