Is bluesky decentralized in name only (DINO), or does it have a similar permissionlessness as #nostr? #asknostr
Discussion
Yes
Yes as in yes it's DINO?
Thanks for the link. Interesting, but it doesn't explain why Bluesky is not decentralized. Is there a central entity deciding which are the allowed nodes in the network?
There is a steep learning curve on bluesky, which requires resources of a well funded corporation.
Whereas on nostr, it is so simple a new dev can add an app or relay in hours.
In name only
I'm banned from bluesky
Attempts to ban me from nostr haven't been as effective
A user can be banned from a nostr relay. But nobody can prevent you from running your own relay. Are you banned from the whole bluesky protocol, or from a specific "node" (or whatever the bluesky terminology is)?
Their "at protocol" doesn't do anything
Being banned from bluesky stops me from being able to post, or even simply recover my old posts
With nostr, fiatjaf seems to have me blacklisted from his relays, but his protocol actually does shit so I can still post and people see my posts because other relays are being used
