Ok, so is there a way to either mute or remove yourself from a thread? Just asking... theoretically.

Currently not now. Still getting notifications from hellthreads on all clients exceptAmethystt. Maybe it automatically stopped notifications with tags greater than some amount.
That’s a good rule for clients to adopt if so.
Some clients have already implemented this, but it’s not on Damus yet
