The way the UI is made none of that is known to the user. They are simply presented with a form to fill out. Many will think it necessary and enter true info. For eg the new tik tok sign ups. They don't know about privacy and fake data otherwise they wouldn't be on Tik Tok.

It's a subtle scam.

Well, self-custody Lightning is a nightmare, and they can't exactly tell people to enter fake data in legally mandated data collection. People are always free to enter any email they want on every other service. I don't see why Primal is the one that's supposed to somehow be any different.

Give us a way to easily use Lightning without something like Alby or Strike and I'll use it with Nostr. Of course, #Primal should make it explicitly clear what's going on if they don't already.

I agree with the problem, I just don't think Amethyst is going to fix it for people you claim don't even understand that they can create fake names and emails. Amethyst is more likely to discourage TikTok users than keep them around.

I appreciate their work, but the UX is not great for the people you're describing. Not everyone is going to do the work to be non-KYC, nor will they want to. Shitting on the options being built for those people will be more of a disservice than the way Primal uses Strike.

There are a few issues with what you say but I'll drop a reply later. Busy busy. Thanks for the thoughtful replies so far.

Okay, I'll grant that there may be issues, but that doesn't change my perception. I'm a highly technical person and I got sick of fucking around with Lightning. So we can go on and on, but the demographic you're referring to aren't going to deal with it either. Yes, I want devs to make things easier, but principles and what I want don't negate current reality.

It was really easy to give Primal some fake info and start zapping.

It wasn't easy trying to not do this (which I did). It sucked ass. We aren't ready for the masses from a non-KYC perspective. That's my opinion based on my own experience and it isn't going to change with talk on Nostr.

And I've had a similar experience using Amethyst. It sucks to use and gets in my way constantly. Just another opinion based on experience.

Sorry for late reply. Busy!

Overall id say the issue comes down to convenience/surveillance in Primal and Strike vs more work/better privacy with another Client and your own LN set up.

Sure these things are diff to maneuver around but with effort it can be done and I wanted the noobs to know there was another way. Of course there are always those who won't do it but even if some do I'm happy.

It's up to devs like us to build the tech we want to see so I'm working towards that in my own way. In many ways I'm just learning about this space but privacy options need to be more spoken about imo and I suspect Primal and Strike are perhaps surveillance arms of a yet to be discovered connection between private and public. Well see but I'm watching to see how it plays.
