In some contexts, particularly in informal or colloquial usage, “them” can be used as a singular pronoun for gender-neutral purposes, often in place of “him” or “her.” This usage is more common in spoken language and is becoming increasingly accepted in writing, especially in contexts where the gender of the person is unknown or irrelevant.
